Fifth in a series from RP DESIGN Web Services about website basics and the nuts and bolts that make your website work for you.
IMAGES: THE OTHER CONTENT!
A couple of blogs ago, I wrote about content copy, the text portion of a website which, along with images, makes up the heart and soul of any site. But, as important as words are for search engines and visitors, frequently, it’s the images that first engage people when they view a website, and images which influence sales and convey the lasting impressions of your business or organization. You want to impress people with the best visual representation of what your business or organization is about. A negative first impression will lead to no chance for a second one!
What images to use? If you have a logo, or other company-specific art, be sure the images are of excellent quality, not just a printed copy of your letterhead or company brochure. Images of people should be of professional caliber. As a matter of fact, everything you give to the designer should be clear and sharp, in focus, and as large or as high resolution as possible. If you’re using images of products, it’s preferable to feature separate shots for each, rather than use a group photo with as many products jammed in as possible.
Depending on the nature of your website, professional photos, though expensive, may be the way to go. There are also options to choose stock photos and illustrations. These can get expensive though, so it might be a good idea to ask your website designer for sources or suggestions. Images are an important marketing tool and they can promote visitor confidence in your business or product. So, don’t overlook images. Your website visitors won’t!
